Unexplained “Space Music” Recorded by Apollo Astronauts

When one talks about music on the dark side of the moon, Pink Floyd no doubt springs to mind. But, what this video reveals is that, while making its transit of the far side of the moon, the Apollo space shuttle captured recordings of a strange music of unknown origin. It is believed this “music” – which consists of an eerie cyclical whooshing and whistling sound – came from outer space, because there is NO radio reception from Earth behind the moon.

Could this “music” have come from some higher intelligence? And why were the recordings hidden from public knowledge for so long? No one can say for sure, but the mere fact that NASA doesn’t seem to offer up any explanations is certainly a mystery in itself…

    • I tend to agree with you… however, who are we to define what music would be to other intelligences? We only define music by our own history/experiences/passions, etc. And even if the idea that this could be music is clutching at straws, it’s still an unexplained sound received on the far side of the moon where there is no reception from Earth!

  1. I believe the noise was a result of cosmic radiation/radio interference 😦 , although I guess the possibility of the noise being a result of extraterrestrial activity is always there. Some quotes for supporting evidence.

“As for the likely source of the sounds questioned in the television program, Apollo 10 Lunar Module Pilot Gene Cernan told NASA on Monday, ‘I don’t remember that incident exciting me enough to take it seriously. It was probably just radio interference. Had we thought it was something other than that we would have briefed everyone after the flight. We never gave it another thought.’”

Apollo 11 CM pilot Michael Collin in his book Carrying the Fire:
“There is a strange noise in my headset now, an eerie woo-woo sound. Had I not been warned about it, it would have scared the hell out of me. Stafford’s Apollo 10 crew had first heard it, during their practice rendezvous around the Moon . . . fortunately the radio technicians (rather than the UFO fans) had a ready explanation for it: it was interference between the LM’s and Command Module’s VHF radios. We heard it yesterday when we turned our VHF radios on after separating the two vehicles, and Neil said that it ‘sounds like wind whipping around the trees.’ It stopped as soon as the LM got on the ground, and started up again just a short time ago. A strange noise in a strange place.”

Similar noises have been detected on the Cassini spacecraft’s Radio and Plasma Wave Science Instrument in 2003, created by the planet’s powerful magnetic field, and also by Voyager 1.

So unfortunately, the noise is probably just some weird static. I would definitely have been cool if the noise was a indicator of something else though.

Sorry about the long comment :p
